Scarlet Medusa

At the edge of a coastal tourist town in Japan, an aging scientist works to unlock the biological secret of immortality held in the life cycle of a tiny jellyfish.

"This is a remarkable piece of filmmaking, and an ambitious one. Spencer MacDonald and his team swung high, taking creative risks and making unorthodox editing decisions that paid off. Scarlet Medusa is a kind of sensory feast, made up of images and sounds that are alternately gorgeous, haunting, hilarious, and surreal; the cinematography and sound design play off of one another in ways that surprise and delight you at every turn. Technical achievements aside, what makes Scarlet Medusa a great film is the strength of its characters, and the tender, affectionate portrait MacDonald paints of them. When the screen went black, all we wished was that we had more time to spend with them." - Atlanta Film Festival Jury
